Pyng's FAST1 Intraosseous Infusion System is the first FDA-cleared IO system designed specifically for use in the sternum for emergency procedures in adults and adolescents. When conventional peripheral intravenous access fails, the FAST1 system helps emergency care providers—in the hospital or during prehospital intervention—quickly establish vascular access and safely and effectively administer emergency fluids and medications via the manubrium bone marrow. The FAST1 device is safe for use in patients 12 years of age and older and can be used during resuscitation if a cervical spine collar is in place. Any fluids or drugs that can be given intravenously can also be given IO. As a recognized standard of care and treatment modality, IO infusion is endorsed by the American Heart Association, Advanced Trauma Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support courses, as well as the European Resuscitation Council. IO is also taught as part of military medical training and tactical combat casualty care instructions.ji.
